Variable-voltage unit for alternating-voltage test installations

This variable-voltage unit consists of variable-voltage transformer and shunt reactor coil. Variable-voltage transformer and reactor are fully loaded under no-load conditions, i.e. with the test installation not connected and maximum voltage. The capacitive test installation leads to reduction of the load on the variable-voltage transformer and finally, beyond resonance, to capacitive loading of the variable-voltage transformer. Suitable rating (power of variable-voltage transformer and reactor approximately equal and half as high as the power of the test transformer) makes it possible for the variable-voltage unit to cover the power requirement of the test transformer over the entire voltage range even though the reactor has only one tap.
