PURPOSE:To obtain a recording apparatus not damaging a recording a head by the movement of a cap, by detecting whether the cap is present at a spaced- apart position by a detection means when a power source is closed and allowing a carriage to run to a home position. CONSTITUTION:A detection mechanism 48 is constituted so that an eccentric cam disc 48 and a detection switch 48b to be turned ON and OFF by the large diameter part of the eccentric cam disc 48a are mounted to the shaft 42a of a follower gear 42. When the detection switch 48b is turned OFF, it is detected that a cap holder 28 is present at a first position spaced-apart from a carriage and, when turned ON, it is detected that the cap holder 28 is present at a second position. When a power source is closed, it is judged whether the cap holder 28 is present at the first position. When the cap holder 28 is at the first position, the carriage 14 runs toward a home position and, when the cap holder 28 is absent at the first position, the carriage 14 is moved to the first position and subsequently allowed to run toward the home position. By this method, the unnecessary contact between a cap device and a recording head is prevented. |
