PURPOSE:To obtain a printer having a control mechanism capable of rapidly coping with various uses, by mounting a recording medium having a character code stored therein on a printer main body. CONSTITUTION:When document data code is sent to a CPU4 from a host machine 5 through an interface 6, said code is temporarily stored in a buffer RAM1 and successively read therefrom at a speed matching with processing capacity. A recording medium 12 having the data from the host machine 5 written therein is made detachable from the slot part 15 being the mounting and detaching means provided to an on-line printer main body 14 in such a state that the internal data thereof is held and, by mounting the recording medium 12 to the host machine 5 and a plurality of printers 16... held to an off-line state, printing operation can be performed by the off-line printers 16.... |
