PURPOSE:To produce a magnetic material having excellent saturation magnetization at a low cost by supplying a molten steel which is controlled in C and O and into which specific elements are incorporated to a cooling surface to form a quickly cooled thin strip, and subjecting strip to coil annealing, then to a nitriding treatment and annealing treatment to precipitate iron nitride. CONSTITUTION:The steel made of the compsn. contg. <=0.02wt% C, <=0.01% O, <=10.0% Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Ni, Co and >=1 kinds among Cu, Al, Zr, Nb, and Mo, and consisting of the balance substantially Fe is melted. The molten steel is supplied from an injection nozzle onto a cooling body moving while renewing the cooling surface at a high speed, by which the molten steel is quickly cooled and solidified to form the thin strip having 20-500mum thickness. The strip is coiled and is annealed at >=1,000 deg.C to increase the integration degree of the {100} <0kl> or {100} <001> orientation. After the strip is subjected to the nitriding treatment in a nitrogen atmosphere, the strip is cooled and is then subjected to the annealing treatment to precipitate the iron nitride essentially consisting of Fe16N2. The thin strip for an electromagnetic material, etc. having the improved saturation magnetization is obtd. by the above-mentioned method without adding costly alloy elements thereto. |
