A carbonizing furnace comprising a heating chamber (5) comprising a wall having channels (10) therein, a heating means (9) in the channels (10), a heat insulator composed of carbon fiber felt (12) and a ceramic fiber felt (13) which covers the heating chamber (5) such that the carbon fiber felt (12) is in contact with the heating chamber (5) and the ceramic fiber felt (13) is separated by a space from the carbon fiber felt (12), and a housing (17) enclosing the heating chamber (5) and the heat insulator, and a means for filling insulator with an inert gas (19). The carbonizing furnace can be run stably and continuously.
