A process for producing a ureide having a nitrogen content of more than 12.6% in which an aldohexose and urea are used as the starting compounds. According to the process, urea is allowed to react with an aldohexose, such as glucose or a material which contains glucose, in the presence of acids under reaction conditions in which the concentration of aldohexose is greater than 4% of the total weight of the reaction solution and in which the concentration of acid in the said solution is greater than 1 mol/l, while the reaction temperature is in the area of approx. 80 degree C. The ureides are precipitated out of the acidic solution by means of cooling and/or concentrating. The nitrogen content in the resulting ureides is greater than 12.6%, and these ureides are difficultly soluble in water and in dilute acids but soluble in alkaline solution. In general, ureides are formed whose nitrogen content is between approx. 15 and 18%. In the process, the acid which is used can be selected, for example, from the following acids or their mixtures: HCl, H2SO4 and H3PO4. The ureides which are produced in accordance with the process are used, for example, in animal feed and/or as an additive in feed, in particular in feed, or as an additive in feed, which is intended for ruminants. |
