摘要 The cathode fingers projecting from the cathode jacket cladding in a membrane electrolytic cell of the type shown is US-PS 3899408 are removed and replaced by an increased number of fingers with a smaller interval between the perforated conductive plates forming the finger exteriors, and in contact with corrugated metal reinforcements longer than in the original fingers, applied alternatively to the interior finger faces and providing an internal channel for evolved O2. The number of anodes affixed to the cell base in corresp. increased, and the cathode jacket cladding is replaced at the cell base, with the cathode fingers positioned between adjacent anodes. As an example, 75 anodes and 24 cathode fingers are replaced by 93 anodes and 30 cathode fingers. Pref. core copper rods in replacement cathode fingers have reduced dia.. Anodes may be expansible or widenable.
