The invention relates to a method for rescuing people in danger of drowning, consisting in deploying from a shore (bank) or from a boat, a floating element coming up alongside the person in danger; the equipment in accordance with the method includes a floating element 1, on the central part 2 of which is attached an inflatable ring 5 at one end 6, its other end 9 being immobilised on a stationary or movable frame 11 and attached via a hose 12 to a compressed-gas tank 13; on either side of the floating element 1, reels 4 receive the ropes 8 serving to direct the said element 1 during the paying out of the ring 5 from the central part 2 upon penetration of air in the said ring 5, or when the latter is entirely played out. <IMAGE>
