<p>NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I (R is OH, amino or phthaloyl). USE:An intermediate for synthesizing biologically active substances such as saframycin B. The saframycin B can be synthesized via a trimethoxylated intermediate without requiring the introduction of a protecting group such as benzyloxy group. PREPARATION:For example, a ring-closed compound (non-natural type) of formula III is produced from an amine of formula II by Pictet-Spengler method. The compound of formula III is treated with mercuric acetate and then with hydrogen sulfide gas. The resulting precipitates are removed and the filtrate is treated with sodium borohydride to give a compound (natural type) of formula IV, which is then treated with lithium aluminum hydride in a solvent such as THF under ice-cooling to provide an alcohol of formula V.</p> |
