PURPOSE:To produce the title optical fiber base material having reduced eccentricity with good reproducibility by specifying the difference between the outer diameter of a core glass material and the inner diameter of a quartz tube to facilitate the insertion of the core material, inserting the core material into the quartz tube, and heating and fusing both materials. CONSTITUTION:The difference between the outer diameter of the core glass material and the inner diameter of the quartz tube to be used as the clad layer is controlled to 0.3-1.0mm. The core material is inserted into the quartz tube to form a composite base material, the base material is heated to integrate the core material and the quartz tube by fusion, and the optical fiber base material is obtained. The core material can be easily inserted by this method, the damage of the inner surface of the quartz tube can be prevented, and an optical fiber base material with less low-strength breakage in spinning is obtained. |
