A cementitious composition, which comprises a cement and a particulate inorganic substrate (e.g. calcium carbonate or iron oxide) previously surface-treated with a fatty acid (e.g. oleic or stearic acid), the surface-treated inorganic substrate being present in an amount sufficient to increase the strength and water-resistance of the composition.
