In an axle assembly a differential transmission (20) connects a drive shaft (28) to two half-shafts (36, 38), each for driving a wheel. The two half-shafts (36, 38) can be braked by means of a common brake (52) and a differential transmission (20). A differential lock (54) is assigned to the differential transmission (20). Brake (52) and differential lock (54) can be actuated by means of a common actuating device (56); in so doing, the torque which can be transmitted by the differential lock (54) is proportional to the brake torque of the brake (52) at any time. An additional actuating device (91), acting solely on the differential lock (54), is also assigned thereto. <IMAGE>
