By means of an appliance set consisting of a collector and of a grab, cuboid bales of straw and the like can be picked up and joined together to form composite stacks. The collector consists of a fork-shaped device with partition walls, pointing in the direction of travel, for the formation of collecting channels. The grab consists of a tongs-like device which can be fastened to the rockers of a front loader and which has parallel arms, the distance between which can be adjusted hydraulically.
