The method for sewing together two sheet-like structures and for applying a covering strip over the seam, whilst pressing the two sheet-like structures against one another in the region of the sewing needle during sewing and whilst pressing on a covering strip coated with a pressure-sensitive adhesive, is characterised in that the covering strip is applied to the sewn-together sheet-like structures directly behind the sewing needle, as seen in the direction of advance of the sheet-like structures, and is pressed onto the seam region there simultaneously with the pressing of the sheet-like structures against one another. An apparatus for this purpose, with a device for feeding two sheet-like structures to be sewn together to a sewing station and with a pressing device and a sewing needle at the sewing station, is characterised in that the pressing device is located directly behind the sewing needle, as seen in the direction of advance of the sheet-like structures, and in that there is provided a device (5) which feeds a covering strip (1), coated with a pressure-sensitive adhesive, to the pressing device (8) in such a way that the covering strip is introduced under the pressing device with its layer of pressure-sensitive adhesive bearing on the seam. <IMAGE> |
