The invention relates to an apparatus in a telecommunication system for the transmission of digital information in duplex, where the apparatus detects signals (ak) sent from a remote end and generates correctional signals intended to adjust a digital balance filter (B) for adaptive echo elimination. The apparatus includes an analogue-digital converter-like circuit, the input of which is connected to a signal line coming from the remote end, and comprises a plurality of capactive elements (C0 - C4), a plurality of controllable switches (00 - 04) and a comparator (K). The switching positions of the switches (01 - 04) correspond during a sampling phase to the instant echo estimation with reverse sign (-e'k), at a first approximation a zero value (0) and at a second approximation a remote level estimation with positive or negative sign (+/-f'k). The comparison results of the comparator (K) at these approximations are utilised for detecting received data (a'k) and for adjusting the balance filter (B).
