PRODUCTION OF COMPOSITE STEEL INGOT

PURPOSE:To surely weld and join a build-up part and steel ingot by preliminarily providing a film part having the compsn. different from the compsn. of the steel ingot to the outside. peripheral face of the steel ingot and executing electroslag build-up welding. CONSTITUTION:The film part 10 having the liquids line temp. lower than the liquidus line temp. of the steel ingot 2 is provided to the outside peripheral face of the steel ingot 2. The electroslag build-up welding is started by immersing one end of a consumable electrode 3 into a slag bath 4 and connecting the other end via a cable 11 to a power source 12. The consumable electrode 3 melts to form the molten metal and forms a molten metal bath 5 in the lower part of the slag bath 4, thus constituting a build-up part 6. The steel ingot 2 is heated by the slag bath 4 in this stage but the film part 10 has the liquids line temp. lower than the liquids line temp. of the steel ingot 2 and is easier to melt; therefore, said part welds and joins surely to the build-up part 6. The build-up part 6 and the steel ingot 2 are thus surely welded and joined at a high electrode melting rate.
