For speeding up a method for positioning a patient relative to n motion axes in space which optionally comprise one or more swivelling axes, the patient being moved from a first position into a second position while he is fixed in a defined position on a couch that is movable relative to n axes via a control and drive unit, it is proposed that the second position be predetermined for the control and drive unit with the coordinates Y1, Y2, ... Yn and that the movement into the second position be executed steadily such that the differences in the coordinates Z1 = Y1 - X1, Z2 = Y2 - X2, ... Zn = Yn - Xn simultaneously reach the value zero, starting from the first position with the coordinates X1, X2, ... Xn, provided they differ from zero before the start of movement. Furthermore, there is described a device for performing the method.
