A starting aid for motor vehicles is proposed, with a differential transmission without wheel slip limiting, and with a handbrake uniformly braking the drive wheels, which is operated by means of a pivotably mounted handbrake lever. In order to specify a starting aid of simple construction which is cheap to manufacture, the invention proposes that operation of the handbrake (1) has superimposed on it an independent mechanical operation of the individual drive wheel brakes (7, 8). <IMAGE>
