PURPOSE:To obtain a glass container suitable for detecting the defect of an optical material while holding the characteristics of a glass plate, by connecting glass plates each having no optical defect at all or a minute defect by a low m.p. glass powder. CONSTITUTION:The connecting end surfaces 1a, 1b, 1c, 1d, 2a, 2b, 3a, 3b of glass plates are coated with a solution containing a low. m.p. glass powder to connect said glass plates and the connected assembly is introduced into a furnace which is, in turn, gradually heated to a temp. lower than the m.p. of each glass plate but higher than the m.p. of the glass powder. The glass powder is melted to fill the contact parts of the glass plates while the solution is evaporated. The furnace is gradually cooled to a room temp. and the assembled glass container is taken out. As the glass plate having almost no optical defect, press glass (m.p. of about 800 deg.C) is used and, as the glass powder, frit glass with a m.p. of about 400 deg.C is used while, as the solution of the glass powder, a liquid mixture of nitrocellulose and isoamyl acetate is used. |
