PURPOSE:To obtain high-purity threonine by simple operation in high yield, by treating an aqueous solution of threonine containing impurities such as acidic amino acid, sulfate group, chlorine ion, dyestuff, etc., with ion elimination chromatography using a strongly acidic exchange resin. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous solution of threonine containing impurities mainly comprising at least one or more of acidic amino acid, sulfate group, chlorine ion and dyestuff is adjusted to the isoelectric point (pH=5.64) of threonine or a neighborhood thereof and most threonine is made in an uncharged state. The acidic amino acid, the sulfate group and the chlorine ion exist as anions at the pH. The aqueous solution of threonine is fed to a strongly acidic cation exchange resin column of type wherein a cation is a pair ion of the anions. Then water is passed through the column, the impurities are eluted and then threonine is eluted and collected. |
