Method for preparing compositions for the control of pain, depression or sedation consisting of causing a serotonin precursor substance to react in order to increase the normal level of the said substance in the brain of an animal or a substance selectively inhibiting resorption of the said serotonin, such as trazodone or a pharmacologically acceptable salt of the same; this in the presence of a substance which cooperates in the enzyme biosynthesis of the said serotonin; may include a stage of adding a pharmacologically permissible vehicle, and a stage of the addition of narcotic to potentiate the analgesic effect of the said narcotic.
