The device is intended to protect a cable liable to be covered with a deposit, especially snow, which is able to lead to it breaking when the weight of this deposit becomes too great. It comprises a lever 6, 7 capable of pivoting about a spindle 4 located under the cable to be protected, one of the ends 6 of the said lever being provided with a receptacle 9 for depositing 13 and the other end 7, which is free, forming a counterweight, being capable of describing a pivoting travel at the end of which it strikes the cable 1 to be protected, the centre of gravity of the said lever 6, 7 being such that, at rest, the free end 7 of the lever is away from the cable 1 and the receptacle 9 has an orientation suitable for receiving and accumulating the deposit 13, this rest position being maintained as long as the weight of the deposit produced on the receptacle does not exceed a predetermined threshold, whereas when this threshold is exceeded, the lever 6, 7 tilts, strikes the cable 1 and produces a jolt which causes the accumulated deposit to fall, the lever resuming its rest position under the effect of its own weight. <IMAGE>
