The invention relates to a device for stabilising a machine, the device consisting of at least one lever 1 mounted articulated (arrow A) about a bearing point 14a of the machine chassis and actuated by a jack 15 in order to move between a position substantially close to the horizontal, called a stowed position, and an inclined position close to the vertical, called a working position in which it bears on the ground by means of an articulated base 4. This device is noteworthy in that the abovementioned lever 1 consists of a beam 10 mounted slidably (arrow F) inside a vertical floor-bearing 11 forming a guide bearing and which, with the said beam 10 passing right through it, is mounted articulated (arrow A) on the abovementioned bearing point 14a of the chassis about which it is actuated by the abovementioned jack 15 wedged between the latter and a point of the vertical floor-bearing 11 situated at a distance from the bearing point 14a with which it defines a lever arm. Applications: stabilising handling machines such as lifting machines or public work machines used on non made-up ground which, often has an uneven seating plane. <IMAGE>
