PURPOSE:To make a steering operation smooth by arranging a means for detecting a steering action and a means for detecting a neutral position of selection lever and reserving a speed change action when both of the said means are actuated simultaneously. CONSTITUTION:In the case a selection signal LS is neutral, it is checked whether steering is being performed or not by means of a steering signal HS. And when a vehicle speed is at a set value or greater, a throttle pedal travel is checked by a pedal travel signal AS. At this time, if the throttle pedal 8 is not depressed but released, a present transmission stage is reserved. With this arrangement, since r.p.m. of an engine does not drop to an idling r.p.m. even if a selection lever 11 is brought to a neutral position, an oil delivery of a power steering pump 7 does not decrease rapidly and therefore a steering operation can be performed smoothly.
