PURPOSE:To easily execute the synchronizing control of image exposure and to reduce the size of a device by making it possible to select a whole exposure area. CONSTITUTION:When whole exposure light L1 is projected to a specified portion for regulating an image area, a potential pattern is formed on an image exposure part. A 1st development is executed by a developing device 8/9 based on the obtained potential to develop the regulated image area. A 2nd whole exposure to a specified position different from the preceding position by whole exposure light L2 and a 2nd development of the obtained electrostatic image is executed with toner T' by the same developing device 10. Thus, a polychromatic image on which different toner images are superposed can be formed. Since it is unnecessary to execute the synchronizing control of image formation within an extremely short period, image formation can be easily executed and an excellent synthesized image free from positional shear can be obtained. In addition, the device can be simplified and reduced at its size.
