METHOD FOR FIXING POLARIZED WAVE MAINTAINING OPTICAL FIBER

PURPOSE:To practically remove the influence of adhesives to be exerted upon polarized wave maintaining action and to prevent polarized wave characteristics from being deteriorated by restricting the contact length between the adhesives and a polarized wave maintaining optical fiber so as not to exceed 1mm at the time of fixing the optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:The naked end part of a polarized wave maintaining optical fiber 6 is inserted into capillaries 4, 8 having inner diameters slightly larger than the outer diameter of the fiber 6 and a gap between the insides of the capillaries 4, 8 and the outer periphery of the fiber 6 to be fixed is filled with adhesives 5 and the adhesives 5 are hardened. The length of a contact area between the adhesives 5 and the fiber 6 is constituted so as to be included within the range of >=0.1mm and <=1mm in the axial direction of the fiber 6. Consequently, the polarized wave maintaining characteristics of transmitted light in the fixed optical fiber 6 can be maintained and the fiber 6 can be easily applied to normal connector parts.
