PURPOSE:To switch the reflection factor of a mirror to an optimum value by switching the reflection factor of the mirror in the daytime and at night based on environmental illuminance around a vehicle and the quantity of incident light upon the mirror, and under especially dark environment at night, switching the mirror to a more reduced low reflection factor. CONSTITUTION:An environmental illuminance detecting means A detects the environmental illuminance around the vehicle and an incident light quantity detecting means B detects the incident light quantity of the mirror. A day/light discriminating means C and an incident light quantity discriminating means D are respectively driven, and in a first reflection factor switching means E, when the incident light quantity exceeds a prescribed value at night, the reflection factor of the mirror is switched to a low level. When the fact that the environmental illuminance is less than a dark road traveling discrimination standard is discriminated by an illuminance discriminating means F, the reflection factor of the mirror is set up to a lower level by a 2nd reflection factor switching means G. Consequently, a glaring sense or uncomfortableness due to the reflected light by the mirror can be removed and an object visualized by the mirror can be clearly projected.
