PURPOSE:To improve the durability and reliability of a driving torque detecting device and to perform high-accuracy torque detection by forming thin film strain gauge elements in a gap formed of a flange provided to the output shaft of a differential gear and the flange of an accelerator shaft. CONSTITUTION:The inner peripheral surface of the flange 3 which engages the output shaft 1a of the differential gear 1 by a spline is flattened partially in the gap formed at the coupling part between the flange 3 and the flange 5a of the accelerator shaft 5, and the four strain gage elements 8 are formed at equal intervals. Those strain gauge elements 8 are formed of alloy strain gage materials in thin films by vacuum deposition and their shapes are preferably a heliborne shape. Then, driving torque is transmitted from the output shaft 1a to the accelerator shaft 5 through the flange 3, but the strain gauge element 8 formed on the inner peripheral surface of the flange 3 vary in resistance value with the transmitted driving torque and the variation is converted by a bridge circuit into an electric signal corresponding to the torque and led out as a driving torque signal.
