PURPOSE:To release silk of cocoon from silk layers readily and to obtain raw silk free from knot, by treating cocoons of destroyed chrysalises with an enzyme such as mutase, etc., or mixed glyceride to change sericin and reconstructing structure at contact points of cocoon layers. CONSTITUTION:Raw cocoons are frozen or dried to kill cyrysalises and treated with an enzyme such a mutase, etc., or water containing mixed glyceride usually for 20-30hr to denature sericin. Then the raw cocoons are frozen at -20--25 deg.C for 200-300hr and thawed so structure at contact points of cocoon layers is made porous. Successively, the cocoons are usually immersed in warm water and silk of cocoon is released from the cocoon layers to give the aimed raw silk.
