PURPOSE:To enable easy confirmation of a printing form of a font pack being used and eliminate restrictions on the design of outer configuration of a printer or the like, by reading information on a printing form, such as a printing form names, stored in the font pack, and displaying the information. CONSTITUTION:When a power switch is turned ON, a printer is set into an ordinary printing operation mode, and printing is conducted according to an operation mode stored in a RAM 7. When it is desired to change the operation mode, 'MODE SETTING' is started. Setting items such as interface form setting, line feed mode setting and printing form setting can be sequentially designated in a stepping manner. Then, 'DISPLAY OF PRINTING FORM INFORMATION' for CG packs 1, B1-B4 currently inserted and designated is displayed. To change the printing form, the next CG pack is designated, the printing form information stored in the pack is read, and is displayed. When the operation mode is to be 'TO USE NEXT ALSO', it is 'STORED IN RAM 7', and in other situations, it is tentatively stored in a RAM 6, and a printing operation is conducted.
