PURPOSE:To prevent the omitting of original picture information even when a converting ratio is smaller by controlling the number of times of a main scanning per the unit time of a solid-state image pick-up element in accordance with linear density in a display system, further, storing image information read by the solid-state image pick-up element temporarily and transmitting it by matching to a prescribed linear density. CONSTITUTION:When a main scanning linear density of a facsimile transmitter is A picture element/mm, a sub-scanning linear density is B line/mm, the main scanning linear density of the display system is X picture element/m and the sub-scanning linear density of the display system is a Y line/mm, main scanning linear density A of a facsimile transmitter is controlled by a control circuit 5 in accordance with a formula A=B X (X/Y). Consequently, the picture information read by a solid-state image pick-up element 3 is the one corresponding to the linear density of the display system, the read image information is temporarily stored to a buffer memory 7 and outputted as the image information of the prescribed linear density. Thus, the linear density ratio of the main scanning and the sub-scanning can be converted without omitting the original picture information.
