PURPOSE:To improve the rate of fuel consumption and the stability of idling by closing an intake air control valve which is installed in one intake passage of plural intake passages provided in cylinders when the engine temp. is low and an intake air quantity is small, while opening said valve when the intake air quantity is large. CONSTITUTION:Plural intake passages 1a, 1b are provided for cylinders respectively and an intake air control valve 2 is installed on one intake passage 1b. A first signal generating means 4 generates a driving signal for the intake air control valve 2 when an engine is warm in accordance with various operating conditions. A second signal generating means 6 generates a driving signal for closing the intake air control valve 2 when a detected intake air quantity is small and for opening the valve 2 when it is large in accordance with the output of an intake air quantity detecting means 5 for detecting an intake air quantity. And, the first signal generating means 4 is selected when the engine is warm while the second signal generating means 6 is selected when the engine is cold, to be connected to an intake air control valve driving means 3, by a switchover means 7 which is operated in response to an engine temp. condition.
