PURPOSE:To realize real time processing by software by forming codes arranging a binary number indicating run length successively to code length information indicating the code length, and setting the code length integer times specified number of bits. CONSTITUTION:As data indicating the code length are included in a pattern of first 4 bits of each code RL(4), RL(8), RL(12), RL(16), the code length of the run length code can be discriminated by discriminating the pattern, and these codes can be treated as combination of data of 4-bit unit. For instance,the code of 16 bits RL(16) can be divided into RL(16)H,RL(16)S, RL(16)M, R1(16)L respectively. The run length is generated on the basis of the content of data of an encoded line and 4 kinds of codes RL(4), RL(8), RL(12), RL(16) are generated irregularly and all combinations of adjoining ones of the 4 kinds of codes are generated. Accordingly, by making processing of 4 bits unit, code data (code) can ne inputted and outputted. Therefore, processing required in shaping run length codes to processing unit by encoding process and decoding process can be simplified.
