PURPOSE:To merge data sequences with long key length at high speed on a pipeline basis by converting the key values of two data sequences into small integer values and merging data with key width of deletion. CONSTITUTION:When two data sequences A and B which are stored in a storage device 3 and already sorted are inputted to a key conversion part 1, the key conversion part 1 makes integral values which are not negative to correspond to key values appearing in the two data sequences A and B unequivocally. Consequently, two data sequences consisting of groups of identification numbers (ID) of respective data and integer values are obtained and merged by a data merging part 2, so that the data sequence consisting of the group of IDs is outputted. Thus, the key values are converted into small integer values and the data merging is carried out with the key width of the deletion, so the merg ing operation of data with keys larger than the width of a key value comparator provided to the data merging part 2 is carried out on the pipeline basis.
