<p>PURPOSE:To obtain an effective air cleaner with which high capturing efficiency is obtd. by forming a supporting member of a dielectric filter medium of a non-conductor and applying potential between the supporting member and grounding electrode. CONSTITUTION:The supporting member 6 for supporting the dielectric filter medium 5 of the air cleaner for removing cigarette smoke and dust in a meeting room, office room, etc., is formed of the non-conductor of a synthetic high- polymer insulating material such as PVC or polystyrene. The potential of the same polarity as the polarity of accumulated charge is applied to an electrode 7 provided on a passage where the charge leaks from the filter medium 5 to the ground side. Since the leakage of the charge is thereby prevented, the potential of the filter medium surface by the accumulated charge is maintained even if the filter medium 5 is contaminated. The dust collecting efficiency approximately equal to the dust collection efficiency in the initial period of operation is maintained.</p> |
