NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I (R<1> and R<2> are 1-4C alkyl; when X<2> is H, X<1> and X<3> are 1-4C alkyl or alkoxy or halogen; when X<2> is 1-4C alkoxy, X<1> and X<3> are 1-4C alkyl; when X<3> is H, X<1> is 1-4C alkyl and X<2> is 1-4C halogen-substituted alkoxy). EXAMPLE:2-Chloro-4-amino-6-(3,5-dimethyl-alpha-methylbenzyl)-S-triazine. USE:A highly selective herbicide. It exhibits excellent herbicidal effect against annual and perennial weeds and gives no phytotoxicity to paddy rice plant. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting a benzylamine derivative of formula II with a dihalogenated aminotriazine of formula III (X<4> and X<5> are halogen) and reacting the resultant compound of formula IV with an alkyl mercaptan of formula R<2>SH or alkyl mercaptide of formula R<2>SM (M is alkali metal).
