PURPOSE:To obtain the titled polyester which is suitable for blended yarn fabric with cotton, useful as clothes and working clothes and has improved flame retardance and feeling, by blending polyester with a specific phosphorus compound and a metallic compound of Mg, Li or Ca. CONSTITUTION:(A) A raw material component having a repeating constituent unit comprising >=70mol% ethylene terephthalate is reacted and, at the early stage of polymerization, (B) 0.8-3.0wt% based on the component A of a phosphorus compound [e.g. (2-carboxyethyl)methylphosphinic acid, etc.] shown by formula I[R1 and R2 are H, 1-18C alkyl, etc.; R3 is aryl, etc.; A is (CnH2n) and n is 1-4] and (C) one or more metallic compounds of Mg, Li and Ca are added to the component A in such a way that correlation shown by formula II(P is amount of the component B added based on acid component; M is amount of the metallic element added based on the acid component) is satisfied and polycondensation is carried out to give the aimed polyester.
