SEMISYNTHETIC MINERAL AND PRODUCTION THEREOF

PURPOSE:To obtain a semisynthetic mineral having both hydrophilic nature and lipophilic nature and emulsifying action on an oil-water system, by reacting raw material clay containing montmorillonite and cristobalite in a specific state with Mg oxide(hydroxide) in the presence of water. CONSTITUTION:(A) Raw material clay containing montmorillonite and 5-50wt% cristobalite in a physically inseparable state is reacted with (B) magnesium oxide(hydroxide) or a magnesium compound (e.g. MgCO3) capable of forming oxide(hydroxide) under a reaction condition in a ratio of 0.1-3.0mol amount based on 1mol SiO2 in cristobalite in the component A in the presence of water at 60-300 deg.C to give a semisynthetic substance which contains dioctahedral type montmorillonite and triocatahedral type magnesium phyllosilicate in an amount ratio to give intensity ratio of X-ray diffraction peak of index of plane [060] of 0.5-5 in a physically inseparable state and has X-ray diffraction peaks at 1.49-1.51Angstrom and 1.53-1.55Angstrom .
