PURPOSE:To safely produce a good-quality ingot providing a cylindrical grating type buckling adjusting flask to the inside of a cylindrical metallic core in the central part of a casting mold and blowing an inert gas during casting and water or gas-mixed mists after buckling of the core from a central cooling nozzle. CONSTITUTION:The cylindrical grating type buckling adjusting flask 7 having 5-50mm spaces to prevent the generation of shell cracking is disposed to the inside of the cylindrical metal core 6 disposed to the central part of the casting mold 2. The inert gas is blown to the metallic core 6 from the central cooling nozzle 8 during casting to permit the free shrinkage, on cooling, to the formed shell by the buckling of the metallic core 6, thereby preventing the generation of the surface cracking. The water or the water-gas mixed mists are blown to cool and strengthen the shell during the growth of the casting, by which the generation inverted V segregation is prevented and the buckling deformation is maintained within the specified value. The generation of the internal shell cracking and leakage of the molten steel are thus prevented. The ingot having the good quality without having cracks is thus formed and the hollow ingot is safely produced without the possibility of a steam explosion.
