PURPOSE:To make the outdoor storage of a stand-by propeller shaft possible through simple process and consequently reduce its storage cost by a method wherein the stand-by propeller shaft is stored under the state that the outer periphery of the shaft is covered in close contact with lining material, which is mainly composed of heat- shrinkable shape memory resin material, by heat-shrinking the lining material by a proper heating means. CONSTITUTION:When lining material 1, the diameter of which is properly larger than that of a stand-by propeller shaft 4, is externally inserted onto the stand-by propeller shaft 4 to be corrosion-prevented and stored and, after that, gradually heated by a heating means such as a burner 5 or the like, a tube 2 heat-shrinks so as to clamp the outer peripheral surface 4' of the shaft by being heated up to about 120 deg.C and at the same time fluidized self-adhesive 3 on the circumference of the tube 2 closely contacts the outer peripheral surface 4'. In this case, in order for air not to be trapped between the lining material 1 and the outer peripheral surface 4' of the shaft, heating is better performed gradually from one side to the other side in the axial direction. As the lining material 1 perfectly closely contacts the outer peripheral surface 4' of the shaft, the outer peripheral surface 4' is prevented from getting into contact with water, air and the like.
