PURPOSE:To plate metallic stock with a noble metal with satisfactory adhesion by treating the stock with a metal surface treating agent for plating contg. an alkali compound and alkanosulfonic acid or a salt thereof. CONSTITUTION:This metal surface treating agent for plating contains an alkali compound and alkanolsulfonic acid or a salt thereof or further contains an org. acid, an alkali or ammonium salt thereof, an ester thereof, an inorg. acid, an alkali or ammonium salt thereof. The treating agent is applicable to metals such as Fe-Ni alloys, Fe-Ni-Co alloys, stainless steel and tungsten.
