PURPOSE:To produce the titled fiber having excellent tensile strength in high productivity, by hydrolyzing a silicon alkoxide and calcining the resultant gel fiber under a specific condition. CONSTITUTION:A solution of a silicon alkoxide (e.g. ethyl silicate) is hydrolyzed and the solution is spun in the course of gelation reaction to obtain a gel fiber. The fiber is subjected to the primary calcination at <=600 deg.C in an oxidizing atmosphere under a tension of 100-10,000g/mm<2> and then to the secondary calcination at 600-1,100 deg.C for 10sec-10hr under a tension of 100-10,000g/mm<2> to obtain the objective quartz fiber having an average tensile strength of 60-80kg/mm<2>. |
