PURPOSE:To improve production efficiency, by a method wherein, when a material is conveyed to a lathe by means of a material conveying member to complete positioning chuck, the conveying member is moved backward, and vibration is prohibited against production. CONSTITUTION:An instruction on the feed of a material 20 is outputted from an NC device 30 to a controller 29, a screw lever 27 is rotated through rotation of a motor 28, and a conveying member 22 is pushed rightward with the aid of a moving member 25. The material 20 is brought into contact with a stopper 48 through the working of the member 22 for positioning, the member 22 is chucked by means of a chuck 24 to complete the feed motion of the material. Control is effected so that the conveying member 22 is separated away from the material 20, vibration produced through the conveying member 22 during a machining work is prevented, and high speed machining is practicable.
