PURPOSE:To improve reaction efficiency and to suppress the erosion of refractories by utilizing the flow arising from the rotating motion by the magnetic field of a molten metal in a bent pipe reaction vessel to execute continuous slag off and refining in melt reduction of raw materials essentially consisting of a metal oxide, etc. CONSTITUTION:A rotating magnetic field generator 3 is provided to one side of the bent pipe-shaped reaction vessel 2 in which, for example, a molten iron 1 is held. The rotating magnetic field is acted by said device on the molten iron 1 to induce the rotating motion in the molten iron 1. This rotating motion is then transmitted with the influence of the rotting magnetic field through the bent part of the vessel 2, by which the entire part of the molten iron is rotationally moved. Iron ore and C-contg. material are supplied from the side where device 3 is not installed into the molten iron 1 through an addition hole 10. Gaseous O2 6 is blown from a tap blowing added thereto at need. Slag 5 having a high concn. of FeO is included into the flow of the molten iron bath and is cross moved toward the bath surface on the other aperture side. The slag makes a substantial contact reaction with the molten metal during this time. The slag 5' after the reduction is continuously or intermittently discharged by a spout 7.
