PURPOSE:To remarkably easily manufacture a contact lens of an excellent quality in a short period of time by a method wherein a male and a female molding members are combined through a abutting part and a spacer to control the thickness of a lens to the outer peripheral portions of the molding parts of both the molding members. CONSTITUTION:The molding part 2 of a male molding member 4 and the molding part 6 of a female molding member 8 form a vertically shiftable fitting structure. When both the molding members 4 and 8 perfectly contact through a spacer 9 with each other, a certain volume of polymeric composition liquid is filled in a gap for molding a lens. The molding tool is heated in a constant temperature bath in accordance with a temperature raising program. Since the volume of the polymeric composition liquid decreases due to the shrinkage on polymerization, a force acts in the direction so as to draw near a molding surface 1 and a molding surface 5. The spacer 9 shows the flexibility so as to decrease its thickness as both the molding members 4 and 8 draw near, resulting in absorbing the shrinkage on polymerization in the direction of the thickness of a lens. On the other hand, the abutting part 10 formed on the molding member 8 correctly determines the thickness of the lens and prevents said thickness from becoming locally ununiform. Consequently, a contact lens without sinkmarks, flashes and the like can be easily manufactured with no machining at all.
