PURPOSE:To remarkably easily manufacture a contact lens having an excellent quality in a short period of time by a method wherein a male and a female molding members are combined with each other through a spacer along their major axes. CONSTITUTION:A male molding member 4 and a female molding member 8 are combined through a spacer 9 between them along their major axes with each other so as to generate a gap cut off from the outside. When the molding members 4 and 8 perfectly contact through the spacer 9 with each other, a certain volume of polymeric composition liquid is filled in the gap. The molding tool is heated in a constant temperature bath in accordance with the predetermined temperature raising program. Since the volume of the polymeric composition liquid decreases due to the shrinkage on polymerization and the liquid exhibits adhesion to a first optical molding surface 1 and a second optical molding surface 5, a force acts in the direction so as to draw near both the optical surfaces. Since the spacer 9 is fully flexible in the above- mentioned polymerization process, the thickness of the spacer 9 decreases as both the molding members draw near to each other, resulting in absorbing the shrinkage on polymerization in the direction of the thickness of a lens. Consequently, a contact lens without defects such as sinkmark, flash and the like can be remarkably easily manufactured with no machining at all.
