PURPOSE:In the process for determining living body components using dehydrogenase, NADH and NADPH formed are allowed to react with xanthine oxidase in the presence of a reagent to be reduced and the pigment formed is determined whereby exact assay becomes possible. CONSTITUTION:The present invention can be applied to a variety of reaction systems using NAD or NADP and dehydrogenase such in the determination of glucose, galactose, bile acid or neutral lipid, which is shown in the Figure. As show in the Figure, NADH and NADPH or their derivatives formed by intrinsic substances are allowed to react with xanthine oxidase, peroxidase and a hydrogen donor, a reagent to be reduced is added to the reaction system and the formed pigment is determined to effect the measurement of living body components. The hydrogen donor is, e.g., o-hydroxybenzoic acid, methyl m- hydroxybenzoate, aniline or the like.
