PURPOSE:To prevent the fogging to a molten pool by the degraded fluidity of molten slag by incorporating specific ratios of TiO2 and CaO into a coating material, incorporating a specific ratio of a total metal fluoride in which essentially components NaF and CeF3 are incorporated into said material at a specific ratio in terms of fluorine. CONSTITUTION:The compsn. of the coating material contains 4-60% TiO2 and 7-40% CaO. The coating material contain the metal fluoride including the NaF and CeF3 as the essential components at 1-8% in terms of florine in addition thereto. The TiO2 source is rutile and calcium titanate, etc., and the CaO source is calcium titanate, calcium carbonate, etc. The metal fluoride including the essential components NaF and CeF3 prevents the generation of pits and improves joint performance. Excellent welding workability is exhibited in all postures by using such welding rod even if a welding current value is low.
