PURPOSE:To improve the polarization performance, heat resistance and moisture resistance of a polarizing film by incorporating a specific anthraquinone dye into a base material for the film. CONSTITUTION:The anthraquinone dye expressed by the formula is incorporated into the base material for the film consisting of a liquid crystalline polyester. In the formula, R<1>, R<2> denote H, alkyl, alkoxy, aryl, aryloxy, cyclohexyl, halogen, etc.; X is O, S, imino. The dye is usable by mixing >=2 kinds if necessary and may be further added with other dichromatic dyes, etc. The polarizing film which has the excellent polarization performance and is also provided with characteristics such as heat resistance, moisture resistance, weatherability and transparency is obtd.
