In a method for engine torque control within a wheel slip control system for motor vehicles with at least one drivable and one brakable wheel (13), the behaviour of which is detected by at least one sensor (16), with a control device (14, 3), which on the basis of the sensor signals generates a wheel slip-controlled hydraulic pressure in the wheel cylinder (4), the wheel slip-controlled pressure is used to control the torque of the engine (10). For this purpose, the wheel cylinder (4) of the wheel brake (5) of the driven vehicle wheel (13) is connected by way of a pressure medium line, for example a hydraulic control line (7), to a control cylinder (8), the piston (18) of which acts by way of an adjusting element (9) on the brake pedal (27) or the adjusting member (31) for the throttle valve (12) or the injection pump. Since the pressure in the wheel cylinder (4) in controlled form represents the function of the wheel rotational behaviour, it is directly employed, on attaining a certain pressure level, for controlling the engine torque, which permits a cost-effective and compact construction of the device. <IMAGE>
